Datsuijo 脱衣所 - (a) place to be naked, Tokyo
The Tokyo project focused on a single question: “Can we create someone else’s work?”
Can I make your work? If I were to do it, what would it become? Often, when we visit exhibitions, we find ourselves criticizing: “It would be better if they did this,” or “I would have handled that differently.” Well, this project is a response to that—a challenge to actually do it. It’s about taking the themes you handle and seeing what happens when filtered through my perspective. It’s full of “ifs,” which makes the uncertainty incredibly strong.
This state of not knowing what to make or how to make it—this was all completed during the trip. Shooting posters in a small forest town, hot springs, countless public baths, the steam, and the exchange of ideas. It sounds a bit romantic, but we intentionally turned the entire journey into a part of the work. For me, it was a process, not just an exhibition. The process is the project; the exhibition is just a single point in time.
That’s why I want to treat the photographs of this project through the lens of a photographer documenting a journey.
“What does your work represent? Is it the subject you choose? Your statement? Or is it the way you look at things? Your signature style?” These are the questions that surfaced because I was trying to create someone else’s work.

東京的這次計畫，聚焦在一個概念：「我們可以做出別人的作品嗎？」
我可以做你的作品嗎？如果是我來做我會做出什麼。因為常常去看展不是會批評嗎，他如果怎樣做會更好，這邊可以怎麼搞，那你來做啊，有這樣的意思。還有就是以我的觀點去做你處理的主題，如果這個主題我也來試著想想看會做出什麼。超多如果的，所以就是不確定性超級強。
這個完全不知道會做出什麼跟要怎麼做的狀態，在旅遊中完成，去小鎮的森林拍海報、去泡湯、無數次的澡堂、熱氣跟交換想法。這樣講有點浪漫，但是我們刻意讓整趟旅程變成作品的一部分，這是一整個過程，而不是展覽，對我來說啦。就是這個過程才是整個計畫，展覽只是一個節點。
所以我想以一個攝影師處理旅行的照片的角度，去處理這個計畫的照片。
「你的作品代表了什麼？是你選擇的主題嗎？是你的論述嗎？還是你看事情的眼光？還是你慣用的手法？」因為要做別人的作品，所以想了這樣的東西。
一開始其實為了寫補助想了一堆東西，覺得要出國交流或駐村就要做一些跟當地有關的東西，後來做作品的時候我們反而很刻意地想避開任何跟環境有關的刻意做的東西，聚焦在自己身上。這一點從泉身上獲得很多觀點，因為我們都不是住在當地的人，但泉在東京住了七年（他在讀東藝大），我覺得他深知從剛到、待一陣子到住在那很久的差異，好像剛到一個地方就對那邊品頭論足的觀點都是輕蔑的，不是說任何外國人對環境觀察的那種作品都很爛，而是剛到的人無法評斷自己當下的觀察的價值，我們討論後覺得，對，我們還是聚焦在自己身上，當然環境的改變很新鮮，但就讓那個新鮮暫時留在那裡，或許會從一些邊邊角角偷偷體現出來吧。
